Today, we learned about the Solar System at Learning Time. We talked about the stars that you see in the sky at night, explained that the stars are balls of fire out in space and that the Sun is a star, so we should never look straight at it because it hurts our eyes. We elaborated saying we see the sun a lot bigger than the rest of the stars in the night sky because it's a lot closer than others, which are so far far away. Also, it was explained that Earth is a planet that revolves around the sun, but that it's not the only planet doing that. That there are several others but none of them has plants or animals or people in it. It was also discussed that some planets appear to be stars from where we are because they, too are far away.
After that, the video was played up until right before Pluto gets mentioned. Short explanations and side notes were said while it was played, enumerating the planets and repeating their names several times. The movie can even be stopped a couple of times to make longer explanations for older kids if appropriate.
Finally, we drew the sun and the planets in a diagram, repeating the explanations in the video one more time and asking the kid questions about it. She was asked to make her own drawings about the sun, stars and planets (and then write the names of all the astral bodies if the kid can already write).
